"I work hard to turn out a kind, gentle, & willing partner who knows how his body works, is his most athletic, and who knows what the language of horse & rider communication is all about."

Colt-Starting - starting with the basics, on the ground, dealing with manners and acceptance of the "terms of partnership". Progression is made based on the needs, comfort-level and acceptability of each individual animal. I like to start a baby on the ground as a yearling, with basic ground manners, sacking out, saddling, bitting, & driving. He is then ready to step on and ride as a two-year-old and progress is made to turn out a great & solid prospect as a three-year-old.
My Colt Starting Program requires participation of the owner in as many of the training sessions as possible (let me know if this works for you!) so the owner can stay in tune and learn the new communication "system" along with their horse.
Regular Training - I approach regular training entirely on an individual basis, depending on the level of understanding of each individual horse, the communication ability with the rider/owner, and the prospective "job requirements" for the two of them. After an initial evaluation session, I will sit down with the owner and lay out my training plan for the two of them - including exercises, goals & timeframes.
Each month's training includes one lesson per week so the owner can stay in tune, become a better rider and learn the new communication "system" along with their horse.
Training on cattle - whether starting a new horse on cattle, re-introducing an "old hand" or just fine-tuning a competitive cowhorse, I instill confidence, work ethic, and honesty in each horse while reinforcing (or introducing) exercises to utilize the horse's natural athletic ability to work right.
* The cattle are going "home" this week for the winter. Check back in February for their "estimated spring arrival time"!
